Our Courses

Calabogie Highlands is locally renowned for its innovative course design, stunning natural surroundings, and diverse terrain – all of which combine to create a unique and memorable playing experience.

First opened in 1983, Calabogie Highlands has been expanded and restructured over the past four decades to become two distinctive courses: The General’s 18 and The Major’s 9. Designed to appeal to players of all skill levels, both courses boast wide, Kentucky blue grass fairways, medium-speed greens, and two fairly forgiving cuts of rough. But not every hole is a tee-to-the-green walk in the park. Some challenge with right or left doglegs, steep elevations, cleverly placed bunkers and water features, and fairways lined with thick forests of towering pine, maple, and poplar.

If you enjoy walking, the Major’s 9 is fairly comfortable pushing or carrying clubs. The General’s 18 is longer, hillier, and more suitable for a power cart. Whichever you choose, the relaxed spirit and natural beauty of the Calabogie Highlands will make your round a perfect one.

A Vision Realized

Raised on his family farm on the shores of Calabogie Lake, course founder Rick Fleming once had nearly 200 head of cattle grazing the fields that are now part of Calabogie Highlands Golf Resort. Inspired by a chance encounter with two soon-to-be friends who believed the setting would be ideal for a golf course, Rick began to see more than forest and farmland in his scenic, sweeping property. Years later, with the help of his growing family and renowned golf course designer Bill Dolgos, Rick’s vision came true.

The Major’s 9

Ideal for beginners or just a quick round, The Major’s 9 starts at the pro shop and winds through the lowlands along the lakeshore. After a long par-5 on the second hole, players face their first challenge – a scenic par-3 with a tee deck high above a picture-perfect green fronted by a reedy pond and backed by the sparkling waters of Grassy Bay. What goes down must come up. Raised greens on the fourth and eighth holes are trickier than they appear; but the ninth hole is a pleasure to come home to!

The General’s 18

Like The Major’s 9, The General’s 18 begins at the pro shop, near the lakeshore. There’s lots to love about the first five holes, but a fan favourite is the third hole par-3. Following on the heels of a long par-5, this scenic hole tees off high above a picture-perfect green fronted by a reedy pond and backed by the sparkling waters of Grassy Bay.

After winding through the valley along the lakefront, the course crosses Barryvale Road and literally heads for the hills, offering players a variety of challenging elevation changes on holes that hug the contours of the highlands. The vistas are nothing short of breathtaking, with several tee decks affording expansive views of Calabogie Lake and the surrounding countryside.
